Dead?!

Cooper: "Mom, what IS that black thing up there?"
Me: "I don't know, buddy. (As we get closer...) It's a little raccoon."
C: "Is it DEAD?!"
M: "Uh...I think so. It must've got hit by a car."
C: (Long silence) "No....I don't think it did. It's probably just sleeping."
